Tyson Estes
Tyson Estes was born and raised in Hoquaim, Washington in a small timber town on the west coast of the state. As a child, Estes loved running around in the forest and long the bay which gave him a great appreciation for the natural beauty nature brings to everyday life furthermore, Estes has always loved color and texture. At five years old he woke up to find his mother’s bright red lipstick on the kitchen table and decided to cover the wood railing on the stairs with the rich color. Day after day Estes has made art an essential part of his life.
After graduating from Eastern Washington University with a Filmic Art Degree, Estes moved to Los Angeles, California. With several years of creating art for small and big screen under his belt, Estes need to express his experiences at a more personal level. HE left the world of entertainment and picked up his brush. After a few months of developing his art, Estes sold his first painting and started to rent his work to several television shows. The passion of art consumed him.
Either working with paint, wax, or wood, Estes loves to use his hands to feel and experience the creation of art. With layer upon layer in his paintings, he breaks them down to find the true essence once felt when he started his work. Watching Estes in action is like watching a man possessed. Paint is all over his clothes, buckets, scrapers and brushes cover his studio, while he multi-tasks between painting, wood, and wax. He lays the paint on one canvas and peels it off from another. He takes hours to select wood, then cuts the boards to create a story with select knots and grain. Estes especially likes to work with wax. Wax, the oldest form of painting makes him feel grounded with the spirituality of possible family ancestors working in a similar way that he is today. Working with wax is labor some, yet so beautiful with layer upon layer of wax forming a luminous piece of art.
Estes works with his intuition as an artist finding beauty in everyday things. He loves to look at nature in or on the building of Industry; the wood on a building, rust on pipes, the way paint peels gives Estes a feeling of nature and change. Pulling these visual clues into his abstract mind, Estes produces pieces of work with beautiful precision to puzzle the mind and pull the viewer into a story which is beyond just a piece of art.
In Tyson’s leisure time, he loves to spend it with his Fiance Jenny, either traveling, playing tennis, or just lounging around. Estes on a day to day basis enjoys playing with his two dogs and cuddling up with his cat on the couch. He spends hours reading and thinking up different ways he can create art. All in all, Estes lives for the experience of making art, be it to experiment with paint, to work with his hands, and to find different ways to bring an expression of his experience to all people who view his art one of a kind art.
